We launched the “Suspended Shopping” solidarity initiative this December, because we wanted to do something good together with our customers, and step up to look after communities near and far. We are so happy to announce that it was incredibly successful.

Thanks to you, our wonderful customers, and Time for Equality, our initiative partner, we have been able to distribute € 992.00 worth of products, out of which € 788.00 was raised by your orders, and we split the products between CENT BUTTEK in Bettembourg (Luxembourg) and the parish church CARITAS in Francofonte village (Sicily).

Cent Buttek

The team at Cent Buttek in Bettembourg have expressed heartfelt thanks for the suspended products made possible by you. We received a warm thank you letter from the vice-president M. Arthur Besch and we couldn't be happier. 

Cent Butteks are social grocery stores in Bettembourg, Beggen and  Pétange-Lamadelaine that collect surplus food from supermarkets and food shops to distribute it to more than 800 low-income families, which are identified by the Social Welfare Office of Luxembourg City. Run entirely by volunteers, Cent Butteks rely heavily on donations, whether it is equipment or groceries as the social supermarkets only accept a maximum of €2 per visit from each customer (although that can be nothing, depending on their situation).

Caritas Italiana

In Italy, we have distributed oranges and honey to the parish Caritas in Francofonte, the village where the oranges are sourced from. The 10L of olive oil will be provided to the charity in January. 

In a WhatsApp message sent to me, Pastor Father Luca Gallina from the Caritas center said “Coronavirus has exacerbated problems for low-income families here and elsewhere. The presence of our parish in this territory can be a lifeline of emergency support for local people in crisis thanks to the generosity of those who decide to reach out to the less fortunate. With all my heart, as parish priest of the Mother Church in Francofonte, I am immensely grateful to every single shopper at The Orange Girl for the kind and generous donation of food products. They will be distributed by our volunteers to the low-income families in our village who need them most. The Lord bless you and reward you!”
